David Mamet's new play The Anarchist will now run at Broadway's Golden Theatre instead of the previously announced Lyceum Theatre. Directed by Mamet and starring Tony winner Patti LuPone and Oscar nominee Debra Winger, the play will begin performances November 13. Opening night is set for December 2.
Set in a women’s prison, The Anarchist is a two-character play about an inmate with a radical past (LuPone) who asks the prison’s female warden (Winger) for parole. While Mamet is famous for keeping mum about his projects, a press announcement for the play described The Anarchist as a new play about passion, deception, religion and revolution.
The Anarchist is produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Howard and Janet Kagan. The play will feature scenic and costume design by Patrizia von Brandenstein and lighting design by Jeff Croiter.
